February 25th, 2013
I’m a big fan of Alberta Ferretti, and I’m always curious to see how the queen of flounces and ethereal fabrics is going to update her repertoire. Turns out, she didn’t exactly turn to her garden for inspiration this time around. The black and white palette that marked the first 13 outfits down the runway let the embroidery, beading and other details speak for themselves. Into the world of muslin flounces and frills catwalked a few more structured fabrics for cold-sensitive girls – think velvet, felt and woolly plaid. But her feminine touch wasn’t lost – Signora Ferretti excels at creating cinched-waist silhouettes that remind us of graceful figure skaters’ costumes.
Palette: black, midnight blue, sapphire, purple, absinthe green, olive, strawberry, amethyst
Accessories: Maltese-cross earrings, pointy, embroidered ballet flats, and bejewelled mules with thin heels
Here, a simple tailed jacket gets updated with a great sapphire shade and beadwork.
