Holt Renfrew – World Mastercard Fashion Week
For Holt’s 175th Anniversary year, the luxury retailer offered up a twist on the runway. Instead of the usual bag of Canuck designers, Holt’s presented a whopping sixty-seven looks from the very best of the international stage. Dolce & Gabbana’s Miss Sicily embroidered roses, Prada’s ugly pretty matching pant suits and a mouth-watering colour blocked coat by Céline to name just a few. And yes, even that infamous white cape by Tom Ford worn by Gwyneth Paltrow at this year’s Oscars made an appearance.
Spotted Dan Levy seated front row side. Sure this colour-blocked Céline magic is meant for the ladies but you could pull if off Dan.
Pink Tartan- World Mastercard Fashion Week
Kimberly Newport- Mimran, President and Head Designer Pink Tartan and one half of Canada’s best fashion power couple (her husband is Joe Mimran of Joe Fresh fame) made jackets the focal point of her Spring/Summer 2013 showing. Known for feminine tailored separates with a twist, Pink Tartan’s pieces have a clean elegance that channels a modern day Audrey Hepburn type. Stand outs included a trapeze coat in a delicate mint shade and skinny brocade pants. Classic silhouettes were reinvented with a hint of mod. We saw touches of 50′s and 60′s influences this fall and the retro revival looks like it will continue on into the new year.
Pavoni – World Mastercard Fashion Week
Pavoni set the mood for its guests by placing a single white rose on every chair in the house. Sunglasses were necessary for those sitting close, as the models took the runway in full bedazzled glory. Tulle for days, mind blowing bead work and enough sequins to make Beyonce’s wardrobe look casual by comparison – these creations are the stuff of every girl-girls dreams. Montreal Pavoni design team Mike Derderian and Gianni Falcone presented a collection of twenty-five over the top red carpet looks ranging from ultra-embellished cocktail minis to dramatic, floor sweeping ball gowns. You could hear a collective intake of air as each intricate look, more grand than the one before it, floated down the runway. (Editor’s note: my gift bag from Pavoni included some anti-aging vitamins…I’m not sure how to feel about this but I have started taking them!)
