Vogue Italia gets “it.” Editor Franca Sozzani is a refreshing gift to fashion. Just recently she spoke candidly of her readers – who have helped increase newsstand sales in 2010 by 20%. Admiring them just as they are, she exclaimed to WWD,”Why should these women slim down? Many of the women who have a few extra kilos are especially beautiful and also more feminine.” I have adored her for years, for pushing the fashion envelope in many ways. Little did I know that when making these comments she had a cover up her sleeve starring 3 curvy models! Not since Sophie Dahl have curves hit the cover of Vogue Italia and this probably has much to do with the increasing popularity of Vogue Curvy, a creative online source for plus-size fashion.
The cover models who range in size up to a 16, include Ford’s Tara Lynn and Candice Huffine, known for her many Addition Elle campaigns, and Robyn Lawley of Wilhelmina W Curve. Also in the editorial is Ford’s Marquita Pring. Belle Verre (True Beauty) was shot by Steven Meisel at the Waldorf Astoria in New York in April and the editorial is all about voluptuous curves with sensual lingerie and nudes in the mix
