Katy Perry debuted her new haircut a mere couple of days ago, but, to us, it got eclipsed by what was happening from the neck down: a stylish and low-key (by the pop star’s standards) Versace shift-dress. Not that we can’t appreciate the usual carousel-dressed or latex-clad Katy, but sometimes we like a little sophistication too. What really works here is that the gold studs streamlining the dress manage to bring the party element that Katy has gotten us used to while still keeping the look more conservative than, say, a Jeremy Scott “meat wrapper” dress covered in sequins. If you need to tone it down for an event but still want your look to rock, follow Katy’s example by pairing a detailed midi-length dress in a neutral shade (white works best, but black, grey or nude are okay too) with matching accessories. Oh, and if you can manage to colour coordinate your man friend to your own outfit (just like Katy did with her husband, Russell), then all the more power (and style points) to you!
